In 2016, I was doing a lot of running. I signed up for a running contest that required you to log at least 30 miles of walking or running a week for 10 weeks. If you completed this feat, you were entered into a contest to win an all-expense paid trip to run the Army 10-Miler race in Washington, D.C. Since my husband is an Air Force veteran and was also eligible for the free trip, I started logging my miles. After a few weeks of training, I was injured and had to walk the miles in an effort to stay in the contest. That got boring and I started noticing the animals around me during my walks. Every time I left my house to walk, I was greeted by the smell of a skunk. After my walk, I would water my flowers and a toad would always jump out and scare me. Then I saw my cat chasing a mouse. I started walking and rhyming stories in my head. I would go home and put pen to paper to eventually come up with three books that include the character Stanley the Skunk.  The book was brought to life by an amazing illustrator, Micaela Stefano.  I also ended up winning the trip! I hope you enjoy!
